Barclays Premier League
The English Premier League (EPL) is also known as Barclays Premier League as it is sponsored by Barclays bank. EPL is a famous football league for the English clubs. Round about twenty clubs participate and compete with each other every year during the football season which is from August to May. A total of 38 games are played by every single team.
In 1992 the first division clubs of Football Association Premier League decided to leave the Football league to earn the benefits from a nice TV rights deal and since then English Premier League has become the most watched and famous Premier football league of all time.
English Premier League now is one of the most high and well paid football leagues not only in UK but in the whole world. During the season 2005-2006 the aggregate club revenue earned was calculated around $1.5billion which has crossed over $2bill by now in 2011. The Main reason of it is cause of how it has been promoted by the media and loved the football fans.
Various numbers of clubs participate each year. So we get to see Old clubs, new clubs and even merged clubs, an average of at least 15 clubs are registered per division which denotes that around 700 clubs are members of this famous league.
For every single win in English Premier League the winning team earns 3 points and if the match ends up as a draw it earns the teams 1 point. The ranking is done of the basis of total points and the number goals, so at the end of the season the team having maximum amount of points is announced as the champion. If two teams end up having the same points then the champion team is selected on the basis of differences and number of the goals that are scored by them.
Since 1992 four clubs have been crowned champions: Manchester United (Twelve Times), Arsenal (3Times), Chelsea (3 Times) and Blackburn Rovers (1 Time). The Present champions are Manchester United who have won the English Premier league in the season of 2011-12.
